Welcome To Parkview (2010)
352 pages / fiction

"Welcome To Parkview" reads the sign on the outskirts of town. You glance up at the invitation, contemplating if getting on the inbound bus is such a wise idea. Do you really desire this guided tour of Parkview; a town built on deceit, transients and ghosts, infidelity, gangsters looking for love in all the wrong places, murderers that have no discrimination, lovers pleading their final vows, and maybe a vampire or two lurking in the shadows...

But something draws you to step onto the bus and take a seat right next to a window. A window that looks like it has been cleaned with more grime than soap over the years. The bus seems empty, just a handful of us are daring enough to pay the small fee and try to find what lies beneath the face of the town.

At first glance it appears that your tour of Parkview is only made up of random encounters with average citizens. However, as the bus turns each corner of these streets, and the tour travels deeper into the heart of the town, the façade is peeled back just enough for you to see past the surface. It's then you realize that nothing is a coincidence, and in this town it's better to keep buried secrets quiet, because even the truth can be a deception.

As you peer through the grimy window at the heart of the town, you can catch a glimpse of the darkness that put Parkview on the map. But you chose this adventure, and now it's all in the hands of the bus driver if any of us ever escapes this town named... Parkview.

Dreams Are Unfinished Thoughts (2007)
349 pages / non-fiction

In Brian Paone's first novel, he chronicles the trials and tribulations of befriending "rock star" David Reilly, who is the lead singer of the band God Lives Underwater. The novel follows their 11 year friendship which includes a battle with drug abuse, depression, the music industry, and ultimately David's death in 2005. The novel has been hailed by critics as one of the few non-fiction books in which you do not need to know any of the persons involved to enjoy the story, or become emotionally attached to the characters.

Customer Reviews

"I loved this book. Your narrative is so terse and brave; I couldn't help but appreciate its honesty. Life is made up of small and peculiar moments that puzzle together perfectly, and you achieved that. This is my favorite book of the year. This is an engaging story about a friendship that could have just easily never transpired. Goosebumps, laughter, sadness... despite its very personal feel... it was epic in its courage, detail, and love. Congratulations on a tremendous first book."

"This is a book I could not put down. As someone who has friends in the music industry, I can tell you that from the fan's perspective, Brian's book is as close to the ‘real thing’ as you're going to get. Far past where you are a fan and become a friend, the music part almost becomes secondary to the person producing it. Brian's book is a MUST HAVE for not only [music] fans but also the process a fan only dreams about - from becoming a fan to becoming truly part of that musicians' life."

"You get to see the human side of [a] rockstar..."

"Dreams are Unfinished Thoughts, is a powerful and thoughtful collection of vivid memories detailing every moment of a life changing friendship. The range and intensity of the memories, from silly to mournful, keep the reader fully ensconced in the story until the very end. It is a compelling story definitely worth reading."

About the Band

Transpose was started by Brian Paone and Joshua Givens at the beginning of 2006 in Beverly, Massachusetts. In May, 2006 they moved the band to Jacksonville, FL and recruited ex-Ashes Of Osiris bass player Tim Sigler and drummer Jason Bonner. Immediately the foursome started writing the songs for the debut album, while playing shows from Kingsland, GA to Orlando, FL. Gold certified producer Scott Fravala attended a local show and was impressed enough to approach the band and offer them to record the debut album, "A Delicate Impact" at his studio in Orange Park, FL. The album was released independently in April 2008 to positive reviews and impressive sales at shows and on iTunes.

Transpose prides itself on being genre-bending, mixing styles of post-hardcore with progressive metal and screamo. Crediting the Deftones, Tool, Thursday, and Lamb Of God as the main influences, the band created its own sound in the process.

Transpose's shows have stretched from Savannah, GA to Orlando, FL and they have opened for bands such as Mushroomhead, Tub Ring, Fed Up, New Day, Sore Eyes, and Future Leaders Of The World. The first single, "Only The Dead Go Free" was part of WJAP radio's rotation throughout the summer of 2008.

Joshua Givens left the band in November, 2008 and the band recruited TJ Monaghan as the permanent new guitarist. Transpose are currently writing their second album with a tentative release schedule of Spring, 2011.

About the Band

The Grave Machine was born from the ashes of Drop Kick Jesus. Singer Brian Paone and bass player Eric Park from Drop Kick Jesus, wanted to further explore the industrial/horror side of metal, and recruited guitarist Pete Tachuk to round out the lineup. Influenced heavily on industrial bands such as Ministry, Skinny Puppy, Bile, KMFDM, and Nine Inch Nails while mixing the texture and atmosphere of Pink Floyd, Rush, and Neurosis, they created a soundtrack to every underground horror film.

Sample heavy songs, with grinding riffs and militant beats, set the groundwork for Brian's effect heavy vocals, using films such as The Amityville Horror, War Of The Worlds, May and The Pit & The Pendulum as inspiration lyrically and vocally.

The self titled debut album was recorded in Albany, NY in 2005 and The Grave Machine played in MA, NH and NY opening for bands such as Coven Of 13 and Tragedie Ann.

About the Band

Drop Kick Jesus was started in July, 1997 by KJ Strum, Eric Park, Jay Mower, Ted Goclawski and Brian Paone. The vision of the band was to use keyboards and samples with hardcore music. The band played its very first show in Springfield, MA on a "side stage" at a festival that was hosting Faith No More and Limp Bizkit as the headlining acts.

Ken Cmar recorded and produced the debut album, "Splatterguts" in 1998 for Wonderdrug Records (the same label that Staind came from the year earlier). Promoting the album, Drop Kick Jesus went on a handful of mini-tours opening for bands such as Vision Of Disorder, Will Haven, Crowbar, The Clay People, Crisis, Honkeyball, and Tree. Drop Kick Jesus played shows throughout MA, NH and NY during this era, with the largest fan base coming from the Albany, NY area.

After spending three years promoting "Splatterguts", Drop Kick Jesus wrote their second album, "Depress The Heart" with adding Justin St. Laurent on keyboards while Brian Paone moved up to vocals. Already having a loyal fan base in MA, NH and NY, the band caught the attention of Grammy award winning producer Neil Kernon who was interested in working with the band on the second album.

Neil Kernon recorded "Depress The Heart" at the end of 2000 in Haverhill, MA and then the band traveled to Tornillo, TX for a week to mix the album at Neil's studio. The album was released in 2001 under the Auslander Records tag, which is a subsidiary of Century Media Records.

The album was a growth from "Splatterguts" both musically and sonically. The attitude of the songs had moved away from hardcore and more into electro-metal, using bands such as Meshuggah, Slipknot, Static-X, and Pitchshifter as influences.

Drop Kick Jesus expanded their touring to add VT, ME, RI, and PA during the "Depress The Heart" era. During this period, Drop Kick Jesus played with bands such as Bile, Crisis, Tree, Sam Black Church, Grief, Scissorfight, and Unearth.

Drop Kick Jesus played a sold out show at New York City's famous CBGB's club, opening for Crisis in December of 2000.

Customer Reviews

About the Band

Brian Paone quite his first band, Vertical Smile, in order to have more control over the songwriting and to try his hand at being a front man. Brian formed Yellow #1 in 1995 with Christine Kelley, Dave Ouellette and Dann Paciulan. Writing all the music on a guitar and drum machine, their live shows were full of samples and triggers and instruments being swapped around on stage.

The debut album, "A Bottle Of Rain" was recorded and released in 1997 and produced by Brian Paone. The music was intended to have the whimsical flavor of Mr. Bungle and 80's synth-pop bands, with the lyrical integrity and vocal intensity of Nine Inch Nails, Quicksand and Korn; combining the two polar opposites into one sound, made for a very debatably interesting album.

The band played shows in MA, NH, and RI. The pinnacle of their success was Boston radio station played the single, "Broken Eyes" on rotation and Yellow #1 was asked to open up for Godsmack in 1997 in Salem, MA.

Brian pulled the plug on the band after being approached by bass player Eric Park to form a more industrial-metal band, which would eventually turn into Drop Kick Jesus.

Customer Reviews

"This very inscrutable foursome has got a lock on making very emotional music. Sure, this leans towards pop, but not because it's always whimsical. Yellow #1's pop leanings speing from their nicely structured songs. While the whimsy shows through sometimes, but it's their ability to convey the trial and tribulations of the real human experience (the minor insecurities and disappointments along with the small joys) that is their main strength... Brian Paone seems to be the prodigy here..."
- CIRCUS MAGAZINE (July 1997)

"Snippets of techno, disco and rock styles slammed together like canned sardines with some kind of odd babbling by a slightly deranged sounding guy. Interesting stuff, especially for those of you with Attention Deficit Disorder..."
